On 20 October, GAM Esports was selected as a partner team for the 2027 VALORANT Champions Tour, representing Vietnam. We will play as GAM VALORANT in VCT Pacific, in the same league as T1, Gen.G, Paper Rex and Rex Regum Qeon.
The official announcement is on gam.gg. Here I want to write about the part a press release can't hold: what it means to have a home team.
A team you can call yours
We have seen what a home team does in League of Legends. A GAM match is never just a match in Vietnam. Families watch together. Kids wear the jersey to school. A win on the other side of the world becomes something the whole country talks about the next morning.
Vietnamese VALORANT fans have had the passion for years. They fill the ranked ladder and they follow every international event. What they didn't have was a team at the top level with Vietnam's name on it. From 2027, they do. For me, that is the whole point. A seat in the league matters because of the fan in Đà Nẵng or Hải Phòng who now has a team to follow from the first match of the season.
Why we took the leap
Some people will ask why GAM would move into a new game when League of Legends is who we are. Fair question. When we took over GAM in 2021, the goal was never one title. It was to give Vietnamese talent a real path to the biggest stages in esports, and to make the country proud along the way.
GAM has competed since 2014. In League of Legends we learned what it takes to get there: years of league play, long trips abroad, and a lot of hard losses before the wins people remember. We know how to build a team, a fanbase and a standard. VALORANT is our chance to do it again for a new generation of players and fans.
The new format suits us too. From 2027 the VCT is open. Partner teams get direct entry to Kickoff, the first event of the season. After that, every spot has to be earned, one Cup at a time. GAM has always done its best work as the team nobody expected, so we are happy to earn it.
What comes next
There is a lot of work ahead, and we want to get every piece right. The roster, the coaching staff and our plans for the 2027 season will be announced soon. Vietnam also gets its own Regional Competition inside VCT Pacific, which gives Vietnamese players a clearer road from home to Masters and Champions.
To every Vietnamese player climbing ranked tonight: the road to the top now runs through home. To every fan who has been waiting for a team of your own: this one is yours.
